Inter defender Francesco Acerbi has talked about how he is coping physically with the run of games after joining Inter, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking after the Italy vs England match at San Siro to Rai Sport, via FCInternews, the new Inter defender talked about the importance of beating a good team like England in front of their home fans.

“We wanted to win for our fans, to show that we are still there and that the downturn is gone. We wanted to play a gutsy match, try to make them play little and we played a very good game, especially as a team.

“I really liked the goal, but what we wanted was a team performance. Nowadays if you don’t play as a team, if we don’t all fight together and are not humble, you risk losing to everyone.”

Italy chose to play with three central defenders against England and it can be viewed as a success given the Azzurri won the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from Giacomo Raspadori in the second half.

Francesco Acerbi seemed happy with the system as he said: “I think 80% of coaches in Italy play with three, I think we have the players to play like that and I think it went well.”

He has now played three games in a short space of time as he played for Inter against Viktoria Plzen and Udinese before then starting for Italy on Friday night. He discussed his physical condition across the games.

“The first one against Viktoria went well, the fatigue went away. In Udine it was felt more, this week I trained the right way because I’ve always trained every day since I finished with the national team on June 15, alone when I was at Lazio and then ten days in Milan at home. Today I felt good.”
