Inter defender Federico Dimarco feels that the tackle that left striker Lautaro Martinez in some pain on the ground during the first half of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash with Lecce would have been worthy of a straight red card.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia at halftime, the 24-year-old gave the view that the challenge by Lecce defender Lecce defender Federcio Baschirotto could have resulted in the Lecce player being sent off.

Inter are 1-0 up after their first 45 minutes of Serie A action this season, away to Lecce, with Romelu Lukaku having put the away side ahead very early on.

The Nerazzurri have controlled the lion’s share of possession but yet to really find their sharpness apart from the Belgian’s goal, but one of the most notable incidents in the half came in the form of Baschirotto’s very firm challenge on Martinez, with Inter players appearing to ask referee Alessandro Prontera for more than a yellow card.

“The foul on Lautaro was a yellow card,” Dimarco argued.

He also said that “We lowered the tempo of the match over the second part of the first half, now we’ll have to immediately raise it again so that we can kill off the game immediately.”
