Inter defender Federico Dimarco is pleased to be making his mark with the Italian national team as well as with the Nerazzurri, having scored his first goal for the Azzurri in a 2-0 win over Hungary yesterday evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Sport after the Nations League clash, the 24-year-old gave his thoughts about how far he has come to establish himself with the national team.

Dimarco, who has established himself as a regular in Inter’s team since returning from his loan spell at Hellas Verona at the beginning of last season, is now carving out a similar place for Italy.

The 24-year-old was in Roberto Mancini’s starting eleven for both of the Azzurri’s two Nations League clashes during this international break, a 1-0 win over England and then yesterday’s victory over Hungary, and he is only impressing more and more with his performances.

“I’m happy to have scored my first goal for the Azzurri,” Dimarco said after the match, “the most important thing was to win and we did that – we’re happy to have reached the finals.”

The 24-year-old then reflected by the progress that he is seeing in his career, noting that “I’ve come a long way to get here, every day I’ve tried to give my best in my work. I’m happy to have scored Italy’s 1500th goal, this is an evening to enjoy.”
