Inter central defender Alessandro Bastoni has admitted that his debut for the Italian national team moment feels like a culmination of all the sacrifices he has had to make as a footballer.
Bastoni was not initially in the Italian national team squad but due to injuries, he was promoted from the under 21 side and was handed his national team debut in Wednesday night’s international friendly match versus Estonia.
The highly rated 21-year-old defender played the entirety of the match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi and earned himself rave reviews for his efforts in the match.
“It was nice, it was what I always dreamed of. Ever since I was a child I wanted to wear the Azzurri shirt, I think it is the culmination of many sacrifices made,” Bastoni explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, following the match last night.
Bastoni joined Inter in the Summer of 2017 from fellow Serie A club Atalanta and he has cemented himself as one of the best young defenders not just in Italy but in the world with his performances in the last year or so.
This term he has made seven appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has tallied a single assist.
