Inter have not given up hope of signing a striker in January, according to a report from an Italian newspaper report today.

Corriere dello Sport reported that chief executive Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio held a transfer summit yesterday to review the Nerazzurri’s plans for the wimdow.

While Inter’s transfer market is still at a standstill, Sunday’s win over Juventus in the Derby d’Italia has persuaded Inter’s directors that they have a serious chance of winning the Serie A title and they will leave no stone unturned in a bid to secure reinforcements this month.

Before attempting to bring anyone in though, Inter must offload players to raise funds such as out-of-favour duo Andrea Pinamonti and Christian Eriksen.

When it comes to strikers, Inter are thinking of exploring the foreign market in the hope of finding a low-cost opportunity, such as a loan until the end of the season with part of the players wages paid.

In recent weeks Inter have been offered the chance to sign Divock Origi from Liverpool and the Belgian would still be able to leave the Premier League side on loan.

Inter may stay within Italy though and could move for Atalanta captain Papu Gomez, although Inter do not want to and are not even in the position to accept Atalanta’s demands for the Argentine, or rather €10 million.

It could be possible that Atalanta drop their price tag for the 32-year-old nearer the end of the transfer window though and this is what Gomez’s representatives are hoping for.
