Inter could return to their pursuit of versatile Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez in January should Denzel Dumfries not establish himself in the team by the end of the year.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri will look for progress from Dumfries in the next few matches but could look to bring in Nandez in the transfer window should none be seen.

Dumfries is set to get a run of matches for the Nerazzurri with Matteo Darmian injured for at least the next few fixtures and potentially until the end of 2021.

The Dutchman has impressed sporadically since his summer arrival from PSV but never cemented a starting place for himself ahead of Darmian.

The Nerazzurri will be observing Dumfries’s progress, but should the club not feel that the 25-year-old can be relied upon then they could once again move for Nandez.

The Uruguayan had been a major transfer target during the summer before talks broke down with the Rossoblu, and his proficiency playing at right wing-back could mean that the Nerazzurri continue to see him as a viable option to reinforce that area of the squad if Dumfries is not trusted.
