Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is backing midfielder Kristjan Asllani to be a valid backup to Marcelo Brozovic at the base of midfield, but also believes that the young midfielder can do much more.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the coach is ready to use the 20-year-old’s versatility throughout the season and that he could already have a big role to play.

Like Brozovic, Asllani plays as a classic regista but has transitioned to the role from a more attacking or box-to-box role.

Unlike the Croat, however, this is not a move that has taken place gradually, and he is instead still a player who is growing into his understanding of the game and developing his qualities in style in different positions.

The Albanian was signed first and foremost as the designated backup to Brozovic, as the lack of a deputy for the 29-year-old was one of the major issues in the squad that arose last season.

However, Inzaghi isn’t necessarily just planning to use Asllani exclusively when Brozovic is unable to play or given a rest, and could find other uses to get the best out of his newest midfielder.
