Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi: “Referee Marco Guida Took Away A Win From Us We Fully Deserved” | OneFootball

Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that his team would have deserved three points against Juventus for their performance but were denied but the awarding of a late penalty.

Speaking in a press conference after the match, as reported by FCInterNews, the 45-year-old gave his immediate reaction to a match in which his team drew after a late penalty given by the VAR official.

Inter took an early lead through Edin Dzeko when the Bosnian striker turned in the rebound of a Hakan Calhanoglu strike that hit the post, and they looked to be close to holding onto the result in the second half as they dug in and defended.

The Bianconeri knocked on the door as they started to move the ball more quickly and probed in search of an equalizer.

The Nerazzurri managed to prevent their opponents from fashioning any clear-cut chances despite the pressure, but the VAR saw a penalty in a late challenge by Denzel Dumfries on the leg of Juventus left-back Alex Sandro just on the edge of the box.

The Inter coach was angry with the decision and was given a red card for his reaction as he protested vehemently.

“I was sent off rightly,” Inzaghi reflected, “there was anger and sorrow for the fans. We had to pay more attention, and then [VAR official Marco] Guida pulled play back and took away a victory we deserved.”

He went on that “We were playing against Juventus, at other times a draw could have been fair. We would have deserved the victory, but these episodes make the difference.”

“One minute missing at the end,” he stated, “we had to be more careful and Guida should not have called it back. Now we lick our wounds, then let’s start again from this great performance.”

Of the top of the table in Serie A he stated that “There are seven points behind the top teams, but beyond that there are two points we are missing in the standings. The team played a great game, let’s not forget that we were playing against Juventus.”

On the more defensive posture of his team in the second half Inzaghi stated that “The pace of the first half was difficult to sustain, but even in the second half we didn’t risk much.”

“We would have deserved the victory,” he continued, “Is the killer instinct missing? Of course, at that point we had to bring it home. We will analyze the performance, in that episode we were superior.”

He concluded that “I was happy with my players, everyone would deserve the victory. In a big match like that, conceding a penalty in the 89th minute there is a bad reaction.”
