Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has been extremely impressed by the progress of young midfielder Kristjan Asllani in the first team during the preseason.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the coach has full faith that the 20-year-old will be able to play a prominent role next season despite only just arriving this summer and not having a great deal of senior football under his belt.

Asllani had always been Inter’s priority target to back up Marcelo Brozovic in the squad, with the 20-year-old having impressed with his performances for Empoli after replacing Samuele Ricci in the starting eleven in January.

In truth, even before then the Albanian had been on the Nerazzurri’s radar, and the club pushed to sign him and made a significant financial effort to secure his signature, with his arrival costing a loan fee of €4 million and then €12 million to make the deal permanent next summer.

On the part of the club, there has never been any doubt that Asllani is the right option, however, and Inzaghi has come to share this view after working with the young midfielder in training.

The coach knows that Asllani could be called into action plenty during the season when Brozovic is injured, suspended, or simply needs a rest, and he is not worried about the 20-year-old’s ability to do so.
