Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is happy with the team performance that his squad produced to beat Roma 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico earlier this evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, the Italian tactician praised his players and also provided updates on the fitness of Lautaro Martinez, who dropped to the bench for the match and who he hopes will be back in time for Tuesday’s Champions League clash in Madrid.

The Nerazzurri cruised to victory against the Giallorossi, scoring three goals without reply and thoroughly outclassing the opposition.

The absences from Jose Mourinho’s team will have played a role, but even so the Giallorossi are a formidable side and the Nerazzurri will not have seen it as a straightforward three points going in.

In the end, however, Inzaghi’s men showed all their best qualities to take advantage of a muddled Roma display and bring the points back to Milan.

“I don’t know if it was our most beautiful performance of the season,” Inzaghi stated of the display, “there have been so many times where we played well.”

“Tonight we faced a team that had only lost the derby at home [in fact Roma were also beaten by Milan at the Olimpico],” he added. “Winning in this way gives us self-belief, wehave  many games ahead but this is a great sign. I think the fans are happy.”

On the attacking qualities of Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco, he stated that “I like what I see, I’m lucky enough to coach some top players.”

“I think Skriniar and D’Ambrosio on the right have done it too,” he went on, “we haven’t been affected by the injury crisis which is a great sign for a coach.”

Of the opposition’s own injury woes, Inzaghi stated that “Roma had many absences. I had the fact that Lautaro was not fully fit, made himself available but I didn’t want to risk him because he is too important.”

“We hope to get him back for Tuesday,” he continued. “Now we’ll see about Correa’s condition. When you have this many matches you have to keep trying to get performances from a lot of players, otherwise it’s difficult.”

He said that he is “Lucky to have great players available. Tonight Gagliardini did not come on. He was the best player against Spezia. I have to involve everyone, I always try to use the best players for the matches we are going to play.”

The coach added that “Movement and occupation of space is fundamental in today’s football. We are lucky enough to be able to use it more and more.”

“For many years my teams have played in a certain way,” he added. “Even at Lazio we had fun and played well, like in the season in which COVID stopped things. Those were not lucky results.”

“Now I’m at a great club, with top players,” Inzaghi stated. “We have lost very important players but we didn’t let ourselves get down.”

“We kept the club financially secure and then even when we were ten points behind we didn’t drop our heads,” he added. “We continued to work, we are growing but we haven’t achieved anything yet.”

Of playing at the Stadio Olimpico, Inzaghi stated that “The Olimpico has been my stadium for 22 years, but tonight I was totally focused on the game.”

“Roma had a very competitive eleven but I’m lucky enough to have guys who always try to execute my ideas in the best way.”
