Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi: “I Was Angry After Real Madrid Defeat”

Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has left no doubt that part of the Nerazzurri’s mindset heading into this evening’s emphatic defeat of Bologna at the San Siro was putting the Champions League loss to Real Madrid behind them.

Speaking in a press conference after the Serie A clash, as reported by FCInter1908, the Italian tactician gave the view that this evening’s victory reflected the same kind of performance as his team’s display against Real despite the totally different result.

During Inter’s Champions League group stage opener, the Nerazzurri played with attacking intent and created a number of opportunities to score, but were frustrated that they were unable to beat an in-form Thibaut Courtois. Meanwhile, a last-minute winner by Merengues substitute Rodrygo gave all three points to Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

The Nerazzurri were desperate to put this disappointment behind them, and they did with a 6-1 thrashing of the Rossoblu, though Inzaghi believes that the capacity to achieve this type of result was always in his team.

“I think we did very well,” the coach said. “It happens like tonight that you can score six goals from 18 shots, and against Real we took 19 shots but scored no goals. Sometimes you have to not look exclusively at the result.”

He went on, “I analysed the match with Real Madrid, I congratulated the team on how we controlled the pitch and played openly.

“At the same time I was very very angry because at that point when you fail to win with nineteen shots on goal, you absolutely must not lose. But we were good at putting it behind us and having a great game tonight.”
