Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is happy with how his team played in their 3-1 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League earlier this evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the match, the Nerazzurri boss praised his team’s performance in the must-win clash and singled out midfielder Arturo Vidal for his contributions.

Inter came into the match against Sheriff with only a point from their first two Champions League group stage matches, and they’ll have known that they needed a win against Sheriff to give themselves a foothold in the group.

Inzaghi’s men showed the quality they needed to against the Moldovan side, cruising to a 3-1 win to put themselves right back into contentions.

The coach was not only happy with the much-needed result, but also pleased with the nature of the display to obtain it, feeling that the team had played the way he wanted them to.

“We played the game we had to play,” he stated, “they came off the back of two victories and arrived here with great enthusiasm. The match was complicated, but we were a team who create a lot.”

“We took two hit the post twice as well as the crossbar, we can improve a lot but we have delivered an excellent match,” the coach went on. “We must understand when we must not make mistakes, we have conceded dangerous counterattacks.”

He went on that “There is a lot of work to do, but this team is a pleasure to watch. We have played a few times at home, but unfortunately even with the wonderful fans, we lost against Real in an incredible way and drew with Atalanta by missing a penalty. We need to improve, but I enjoy seeing this team play.”

About the returns of Arturo Vidal and Stefano Sensi he said that “We are recovering, there are still some players not 100% like Correa and Calhanoglu who is still out, while Gagliardini is returning. Playing every three days we need everyone’s help.”

On the chances conceded to Sheriff on the break Inzaghi said, “In my opinion we have to improve there; when we face counterattacking teams we have to be tactically precise. The feeling is that we have conceded 4-5 dangerous breaks, we have to improve and we are working.”

“The goals are few for what we created,” he went on, “we had fourteen sensational balls in but scored two from set pieces. We should have scored more in the first half.”

About Samir Handanovic’s failure to save Sheriff’s free-kick goal Inzaghi stated, “I have to review it, but everyone makes mistakes.”

He closed by speaking about Arturo Vidal, stating that “He always trains with enthusiasm, he and Sanchez have always shown me they want to help. They wanted to be there already against Lazio but we made another choice. Vidal has added quality to the team and has the enthusiasm of a child.”
