Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that the team must answer their critics from this recent period of poor form with positive performances on the pitch.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the coach emphasized the team picking themselves back up, and expressed the hope that tomorrow’s Champions League group stage match against Barcelona can be the opportunity for them to get back to their best.
Inzaghi has seen the Nerazzurri get off to virtually the worst possible start this season, with four wins in Serie A and five in all competitions so far, the same number of matches lost.
This has naturally led to doubts and criticisms, but for the coach’s part he feels that right now the only thing is to prove with the performances that they have what it takes to recover and get the results that they haven’t so far.
“On Saturday we made progress in terms of the quality of our play, but the result didn’t arrive as it often does,” Inzaghi lamented.
“Matches are made up of individual episodes, and we had to do better particularly on the two goals.”
Asked if he thinks that the spark can arrive tomorrow, the coach said that “This is what we hope, we know the strength of our opponent who are one of the strongest teams in the world along with Manchester City.”
“But we must play our game, be aggressive, try to limit them in attack,” he continued.
Asked about selecting between Samir Handanovic and Andre Onana in goal, Inzaghi said that “I consider between them like all the other players.”
“In my opinion they’re both doing very well, especially in training,” he continued.
“They are two very high level goalkeepers, I’m lucky to have both of them and I will make my choices one match at a time.”
And in response to criticisms that have emerged in his direction, Inzaghi said that “I have nothing to say.”
“I try to listen to everyone but then I have to let the pitch speak.”
“I’m aligned with the club and the owners,” he stressed, “I have to get the results to start coming.”
