Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is hoping that the injury crisis at the Nerazzurri will ease up in time for Saturday’s Serie A clash with Roma.

Speaking in a press conference after Inter’s 2-0 win over Spezia, as reported by FCInterNews, the coach explained that he is hoping that Aleksandar Kolarov and Alessandro Bastoni can both return to the squad from injury and illness respectively.

The Nerazzurri lost Bastoni through a stomach illness for the 2-0 win over Spezia, having already known that they would not be able to rely on the likes of Kolarov, Stefan de Vrij, or Andrea Ranocchia for the fixture due to injury.

Inzaghi’s team put in a controlled display on both sides of the ball which brought them three points and another clean sheet, but the injuries in defense could still continue to be a worry going forward.

The match against the Giallorossi on the weekend will be a significant challenge for the Nerazzurri, and they will need to be able to call upon as many of their players as they can to get the result they want from it.

Of the win over Spezia, Inzaghi stated that “We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy match but the guys were extraordinary.”

“We knew it wouldn’t be easy to score straight away,” he went on, “but we got what we wanted. A win that allows us to extend our streak.”

On the jobs done by Bastoni and Milan Skriniar in the centre of the back three in the past two matches the coach stated that “They both did very well, we have lost Ranocchia who had two amazing matches and I have had to adapt.”

“But I was calm because I am lucky to have guys who I knew would have a great match even despite the injury crisis,” he added.

On the alternating penalty-takers at the club, Inzaghi stated that “We have Lautaro, Calhanoglu, and Perisic. I have the utmost confidence in everyone.”

Regarding Bastoni’s absence, the coach explained that “His stomach did not feel well and he had a fever, I hope he recovers.”

“For Kolarov there is some possibility [of a speedy recovery in time for the Roma match],” Inzaghi went on, “with Ranocchia and Darmian we have to wait. As far De Vrij, 22 days have passed, we will see.”

“We are the best attack in the league,” the coach said. “Maybe tonight we should have scored the third but I don’t think there’s much to say.”

Of Arturo Vidal’s potential injury he updated that “Arturo took a blow to his foot, he was in pain. I hope it’s nothing.”

“Alexis moved well,” he added, “before the international break he was fine but he came back with an injury. He always works hard to be available for the team.”
