Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that the team have enjoyed a great season even if a Serie A title win on the final day would have been the icing on the cake for them.

Speaking to InterTV after their win over Sampdoria earlier this evening, the coach gave the view that the the two points which they finish the campaign behind AC Milan should not cause them to disregard all of the good work that has been done.

The Nerazzurri went into this evening’s clash with Sampdoria with the hope that they could overtake the Rossoneri, if their city rivals were to lose their match against Sassuolo to hand them an opening.

Inter did their bit, beating the Blucerchiati 3-0, but their city rivals also won their match by the same scoreline to ensure that they wrapped up the Scudetto.

The coach reflected on the season, stating that “In the next few days we’ll have to analyze clearly what we’ve done across these matches, which fill us with pride anyway.”

“It’s been an excellent season that would have been extraordinary if we had won the Scudetto,” he added, “it didn’t come, but it was by just two points, and we congratulate Milan who’ve had an incredible journey.”

Of forward Joaquin Correa, who hinted at a return to form with his second half brace against the Blucerchiati, he said that “He’s a weapon which unfortunately we haven’t been able to fully use this season due to the two spells out with injury, but as with the other forwards, when he’s played he’s done a great job.”

“We’ve had the best attack and the second-best defense of the season,” he added, “we’re first in many respects. So I’d say we’ve had an excellent season.”

And of the warm reception by the fans at the San Siro, Inzaghi said that “We expected it. We know we have extraordinary fans. This final in front of the Curva and our arrival at the Stadio Olimpico for the Coppa Italia are memories that will stay with me from our journey.”
