Inter will likely alternate between Denzel Dumfries and Matteo Darmian on the right flank this season, depending on the specific opponent and tactical plan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the two wingbacks could continue the dynamic from last season in which both started regularly, unless Dumfries is to be sold in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Darmian started Saturday’s Serie A opener against Lecce, whilst Dumfries came off the bench to have the decisive impact, suggesting that both players still have a major role in Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s plans.

Last season, the coach would frequently utilize Darmian when he was looking for defensive solidity and play Dumfries in order to make use of the Dutchman’s physical dynamism and threat in the final third.

This looks set to be how Inzaghi will approach his team selection this campaign as well, at least from the start, although as long as the transfer window remains open it cannot be ruled out that Chelsea could swoop in with a €50 million offer for Dumfries.
