Speaking at the press conference after Inter’s financial statements for the 2018/19 season were approved, Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta shared his hopes for the upcoming January transfer window.
“In sport we must never set limits but rather we must always raise the bar. I want to emphasise that the model of the beginning of the season was to lay the foundations for gradually achieving victory,” he said.
“It means composing a team with a common vision: sense of work, courage and sacrifice. What we have done so far satisfies us. We know that we can still grow. We look toward the transfer market in January with great optimism.
“We must respect the economic-financial balances, but we are ready to seize the opportunities to strengthen the team that is already able to reflect our goals.
“We want to raise the bar and shore up the team through a mix of established champions and young talents. Our youth academy is already among the best in Europe. With Esposito’s debut, we have shown we have talent in our ranks. We must have the strength to involve them in the first team. The dream we can realise is to bring our talents through the academy and into the first team “.
He then went on to further discuss the January transfer window. “Raising the bar means having ambitions and being able to improve. This does not mean looking at the transfer market as a solution for everything though.
“The January market is barren of opportunities. We must not make up for mistakes, we have a duty to seize opportunities in January and propose certain situations to the owners.
“I look to January as a possibility to consolidate the team to compete in three competitions. The path is gradual to get to win.”
In conclusion he was asked when Inter’s duty to start winning will begin.
“The duty starts immediately, we don’t participate to get third or fourth. Victory is a must but we must not create illusions. We are Inter, who have a rich history and very strong owners. Suning has dictated the direction to return to victory.
“It is clear that in sport it is not always to achieve victory quickly. There must be patience but obviously patience is not infinite.”
