Inter were again linked today with a move to hire former Juventus boss Max Allegri.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb‘s Enzo Bucchioni, the Nerazzurri’s chief executive Beppe Marotta has sounded out Allegri in case Antonio Conte leaves Inter before next season.

Marotta wants Conte to remain in charge and will do everything to persuade him to stay, but even he does not know what the future holds and does not want to be caught unprepared.

Allegri is potentially an ideal solution for Inter, Bucchioni argued, but everything will become clearer by the end of this month.

Conte is due to meet club president Steven Zhang in the coming days and will have several questions to ask, regarding Suning’s future as owners and Inter’s prospects in the transfer market.

Inter’s boss wants to find out if they can reinforce the squad to make it competitive for the UEFA Champions League, having led the club back to the Serie A title after 11 years of waiting.

Conte will be more than happy to stay if he gets the reassurances he wants, the report explained, because he is a leader at Inter and his players adore him.

However, if he doesn’t get the responses he is seeking then he could take ‘a big decision’ and leave Inter after two years in charge.

Allegri is being strongly linked with a return to Juventus to replace Andrea Pirlo, but Bucchioni assured that was not going to happen.
