Inter CEO Beppe Marotta feels that the Nerazzurri can still win the Scudetto on the last day of the season in their match against Sampdoria, but that they have to have faith in it.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN ahead of this evening’s clash with the Blucerchiati, the Nerazzurri executive emphasized that he is treating the Serie A title as an attainable target and also spoke about the contract situation of Ivan Perisic.

The Nerazzurri are relying on Sassuolo to do them a massive favour in their match against AC Milan by beating the Rossoneri and giving Inter the chance to overtake at the top of the table.

Inter are well aware that their fate is not in their own hands in the title race, but Marotta feels that nothing should ever be taken for granted in football.

“In football there’s the saying that everything or the opposite of everything can happen,” he said. “But we have to think about our opponent, about our own result.”

Of the summer transfer market, he said that “We must keep an eye on the balance sheet, as is the case for all teams. But also to staying competitive.”

“I think we’ll be able to achieve both goals and next year we’ll be very competitive,” he added. “We’re aware of the significance of this shirt. We’re a very strong club.”

On the question of whether Ivan Perisic will extend his contract past the end of next month, Marotta said that “We can’t just think as fans, we also have to think in terms of the management of the club.”

“We’re confident,” he added, “we’ll do our best, we have a meeting in a few days – both sides want to continue together and there’s room for an agreement.”

And of the Scudetto, he said that “You have to believe in miracles to make them come true. I believe in our qualities and those of Sassuolo. Anything can happen, but let’s not forget that we have to face Sampdoria.”
