Inter captain Samir Handanovic has now saved the most penalties in Serie A history, according to a report from Italian media outlet FcInterNews yesterday.

The report details how the 35-year-old Slovenian shot stoppers save against Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s penalty in the derby against AC Milan yesterday was his 25th penalty save in Serie A, a new record.

The 39-year-old Swedish veteran went on to score the rebound, helping the Rossoneri achieve their first derby win in two years in the league.

Despite this, Handanovic still took the record from former Inter keeper Gianluca Pagliuca, who saved 24 penalties in 592 league appearances.

The 35-year-old Inter shot stopper has saved 25 penalties in 481 games, since his debut in Serie A back in 2005.

Handanovic, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2022, has conceded eight goals in the first four games of the season so far, failing to keep a clean sheet. He will be Inter’s starting goalkeeper throughout this season.
