Inter captain Samir Handanovic is happy to continue on with the Nerazzurri as it is where he feels at home.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the 37-year-old confirmed that everything is in place for him to extend his contract at least one more season, and expressed his satisfaction at agreeing to stay on.

Handanovic has now been an Inter player for a decade since joining from Udinese in the summer of 2012, captaining the club since the departure of Mauro Icardi and leading the team to the Scudetto, the Supercoppa Italiana, and the Coppa Italia over the past two season.

There is a succession plan in place for the captain, with Andre Onana set to join from Ajax on a free transfer in the summer, but this does not mean that Handanovic’s adventure with Inter is over.

The plan is for the Slovenian to stay and fight for his spot for at least one more season, giving cover in goal while Onana settles in to life in a Nerazzurri shirt, and for his part he is happy about the extension.

“We’ve reached an agreement with the club and I’m happy with the decision,” he said of renewal. “This is my home.”

And of missing out on the Scudetto, Handanovic said that “We feel regret, because it was our goal. But we won two trophies, so the season is positive. But yes, we feel regret.”
