Inter will not be able to sign Edin Dzeko from Roma in January despite the Bosnian’s spat with head coach Paulo Fonseca, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Dzeko has been left out of the Giallorossi’s squad for tomorrow’s match in Serie A at home to Spezia after an argument with Fonseca during Tuesday’s Coppa Italia defeat to the same opponents.
Relations between the pair are said to be at an all-time low with very little chance that both will be able to stay at the club.
As per Di Marzio, however, if Roma choose to keep Fonseca and sell Dzeko before the end of the month he will nonetheless be too expensive for Inter.
Dzeko earns an annual salary of €7.5 million after tax, the same as Christian Eriksen, which the Nerazzurri cannot afford to take onboard unless they sell players first.
West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in bringing Dzeko back to the Premier League, where he previously spent five seasons with Manchester City, but neither club is appealing to the 34-year-old.
Di Marzio said it would be difficult for Roma to find a solution given their likely asking price and the lack of economic resources for most of Europe’s top clubs in January.
Inter were heavily linked with a move for Dzeko in the summer of 2019, following Antonio Conte’s appointment as head coach, before the Bosnian signed a new three-year deal in the capital.
