Rita Guarino's Inter are through to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia following an intense, hard-fought second leg that was decided on penalties. Inter were 3-0 up at halftime before Sampdoria hit four goals in the second half to send the tie into extra time (following the Nerazzurre's 3-2 win in the first leg). It then went all the way to penalties; Piazza made two saves and Mihashi scored the winning spot kick to send the Nerazzurre into the semis.

After the 3-2 success away from home, the second leg of the Coppa Italia quarter-final was played at the Konami Youth Development Centre. Inter lined up with Piazza in goal, Alborghetti and Fordos in the centre of defence, Mihashi, Santi and Pandini in midfield, Ajara and Chawinga supporting Polli. The Nerazzurre's start to the match was excellent: in the fifth minute they took advantage of a free kick and took the lead thanks to Polli's header from a corner taken by Pandini. Five minutes later came the second, thanks to Ajara and Chawinga: after the Cameroonian’s shot was saved, the Nerazzurre number 11 was on hand to make it 2-0. The third goal saw the two swap roles, with Chawinga finding Ajara who beat Fabiano. The first half ended with lots of pressing from the Nerazzurre, who came close to scoring a fourth goal through Merlo and Mihashi. In the second half the game changed and, as in the first leg, thanks to some subs, Sampdoria managed to get back in the game. Regazzoli scored in the 48th minute, then came a goal from distance from Prugna, then in the 68th minute they equalized after a good cross from Oliviero that found the head of Tarenzi to make it 3-3. In the 73rd minute, Bonfantini turned the game around and put Sampdoria 4-3 ahead. The match went into extra time where the Nerazzurri came close to scoring on two occasions, first with Polli's shot that hit the side netting, then with Van Der Grag's header that flicked the post. The goals didn't arrive and the match was decided on penalties: Piazza saved from Tarenzi and Conc, while Polli, Van Der Gragt, Thøgersen, Pandini and Mihashi all converted, meaning the Nerazzurre qualified for the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, where they will face Juventus.
