Inter announce Gianpiero Piovani as new manager

Internazionale have appointed former Parma and Brescia player Gianpiero Piovani as their new manager until 2026. The 56-year-old spent the last six seasons managing Serie A rivals Sassuolo. He helped boost them up from a struggling side to finishing inside the top three. Piovani is already being heralded by the fans as the right choice for Inter’s new manager.

Le Nerazzurre are not short of international talent capable of winning titles. Star midfielder Lina Magull has two Champions League medals and four Bundesliga titles on her résumé. Piovani will also be reunited with his former player Hayley Bugeja, the Maltese international. Bugeja transferred from Sassuolo to Orlando Pride in 2022 and will now once again line up again for Piovani.

The future of Inter under Piovani

Piovani spared no time in confirming improvements are needed at squad level as Inter look ahead to the upcoming season.

“I want to coach a humble group, and we need to work hard and improve both physically and on a technical-tactical level,” the Brescia-born coach said.

The aim will be to immediately improve on last year’s fifth-placed finish in Serie A. Piovani may well directly rival his former team Sassuolo as they finished a mere two points ahead of Inter last campaign. According to the new manager though, there’s no lack of inspiration for the task ahead.

“I want to give my all for these colours, also because I’ve supported this team since birth.”

There’s no doubting the pressure that comes with managing a team like Inter. As one of the most recognisable teams in world football, they will be looking to add to their singular trophy — a Serie B title — and appease the fans.

“We want to make big strides forward and know that the fans are an integral part of the project. It’ll be vital to always have them on our side” Piovani confirmed.
