Inter’s hopes of building a new stadium quickly appear to be fading fast, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s online edition said talks between the Nerazzurri, AC Milan and Milan’s city council over the clubs’ project for a new San Siro were at a standstill.

Inter have made no contact with the council since they published a scathing attack on city mayor Beppe Sala last month, following comments he made about the club’s ‘uncertain’ ownership situation.

The Milan-based publication argued it was in everyone’s interests, including those of Inter president Steven Zhang, to find a way to resolve the impasse.

Inter and AC Milan were hoping to receive a final OK from Milan’s council during the first few months of 2021 to start building their new stadium, but this has not happened.

Milan’s council elections have been postponed from March until October due to COVID-19, a move which has made the San Siro debate ‘more political than sporting’.
