Inter are unlikely to be kicked out of Serie A over their participation in a new Super League, according to a report in the Italian media today.

FcInterNews.it assured that while nothing could be excluded given the moment of ‘maximum crisis’, it seemed highly improbable that Serie A would choose to move forward without the Nerazzurri, AC Milan and Juventus.

UEFA and the respective federations in England, Spain and Italy are furious with the Super League plans and have threatened to ban clubs from domestic and international competitions.

Inter, AC Milan and Juventus joined Serie A’s other 17 clubs yesterday for a heated meeting to discuss the crisis, which saw Beppe Marotta labelled a ‘traitor’ by Torino president Urbano Cairo.

The three Italian sides would be joined in the Super League by six Premier League clubs (Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham) and three La Liga teams (Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid).

The games would be played in midweek, overlapping with the UEFA Champions League but allowing clubs to keep playing in their domestic leagues.
