A second half headed goal from Chris Smalling earned Roma a huge victory over Inter on Saturday evening at the San Siro.

The Giallorossi earned a massive result over Simone Inzaghi’s side thanks to goals from Paulo Dybala and the former Manchester United man, who put in a Man of the Match performance.

Despite having to play the role of spectator due to suspension, it also marked Jose Mourinho’s first win as Roma manager against his former side, having lost the previous three meetings since joining the capital club in May 2021.

It’s a much-needed result for Roma following their poor 1-0 home defeat to Atalanta before the international break. As for Inter, it marks their fourth league defeat in eight matches and ramps up the pressure on manager Simone Inzaghi.

It was all Inter early on in the affair after the Milano-based side took the lead after half an hour thanks to Federico Dimarco.

The Italian international’s slow-roller made it past Roma’s Rui Patricio after midfielder Nicolo Barella spotted his diagonal run.

However, Roma responded just before halftime when Leonardo Spinazzola picked out Paulo Dybala, who fired a stunner past Samir Handanovic.

Just after halftime, the Nerazzurri came close to recapturing the lead but Hakan Calhanoglu was denied by the crossbar.

In the 75th minute, Chris Smalling punished Inter for failing to finish their chances by heading home a perfect free kick delivery from captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, sealing the three points for Roma.
