Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne pinpointed Marco Verratti and the rest of Italy’s midfield unit as the Azzurri’s key strength so far in Euro 2020.

Many have signaled out Italy’s midfield depth as the pivotal reason behind why the side finished Euro 2020 group stage play with three wins and zero goals allowed.

Even in Italy’s group stage fixture against Wales where manager Roberto Mancini tweaked the team’s midfield setup, the Azzurri still managed to control the tempo of the match as it went on to secure its third clean sheet win of the tournament.

Insigne sees that Italy’s midfield unit has been monumental in the side’s Euro 2020 run so far, which he spoke further about during a press conference (via TuttoMercatoWeb) ahead of the upcoming Round of 16 clash against Austria.

“I have a midfield behind me that makes me happy,” Insigne said. “Many of these players are envied by us. Barella, Jorginho, Verratti and Locatelli have quality and intensity. They give us an important hand.

“As far as the form is concerned, the opponents know us, but we play our football without changing our style. This has been our strength, we put them in difficulty.”

From Marco Verratti to Manuel Locatelli, Italy’s midfield group has well stepped up so far in this tournament.
