Lorenzo Insigne believes Napoli ‘made the right choice’ by deciding to appoint Antonio Conte after a difficult post-Scudetto campaign.
The Partenopei were in a state of chaos following the historic success of the 2022-23 season. They started off by appointing Rudi Garcia, who predictably failed to impress, and Walter Mazzarri was unable to right the ship on the Campania coast either.
Napoli closed out the season under Francesco Calzona, whose work failed to impress, leaving the club with a 10th place finish in Serie A, one of the worst title defences in memory. The Italian tactician has now officially signed a multi-year contract and taken over, ready for a new project.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, Insigne gave his backing to Conte, explaining why he believes Napoli made the right decision with their next head coach.
“Conte is a great coup for Napoli. He is a great coach with a great character, I worked with him in the national team.
“He will lift Napoli up again after a so-so year. President De Laurentiis made the right choice. He will certainly have a great season with Napoli.”
Conte is expected to be announced in the coming days and will soon be hard at work helping to plan the club’s summer transfer window.
