French reporter Romain Molina insists there's never been any tension between Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani and Neymar when they were together at PSG.

Much has been made of the 2017 'penalty-gate' incident between the pair when they clashed over who was to take a spot-kick against Lyon. Cavani eventually won the battle and scored from the spot on the day.

Later that season, Neynar claimed the ball for a spot-kick to score his fourth in an 8-0 thumping of Montpellier. But the penalty drew boos from his own fans, who wanted to see Cavani handed the chance to break PSG's all-time scoring record at the time.

But Molina, who has written for the likes of the Guardian and CNN, says the whole episode was driven by the local media and insists even at the time the Cavani camp never had a problem with his Brazilian teammate.

Molina, said in a social media Q&A via Le 10 Sport: "We have always opposed him (Neymar) against Cavani, but it's incredible bull****.

"They got along well. There was the penalty episode, yes. But there again it is the president's fault who tells you, to everyone, 'you are my captain' ...

"When we opposed Cavani and Neymar it was a stupid stupidity, I can tell you. So far, I know Cavani's family well, and I've never heard a single bad word about Neymar. And I can tell you quietly, I talk a lot with his brother. I never heard a single bad word about Neymar, on the contrary! He asked me the question of why we opposed his brother and Neymar. He did not understand."
