Chelsea had a pretty good run this season in terms of injuries, but recent weeks have really seen things fall apart.

The defence went first, but now it’s the attack that’s really suffering. Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu were lost against West Ham, with Noni Madueke pulling his hamstring in last week’s game.

With Mykhailo Mudryk out indefinitely after failing a doping test, that leaves few options out wide- but among them is a very bright talent.

Tyrique George has gradually made his way into Enzo Maresca’s plans through the season, mainly through Conference League action, but the injuries to so many players now surely give him a shot at starting. He came on in the 65th minute of our last game and impressed, looking more lively than Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho combined.

Surely Maresca is thinking of giving the 19 year old a start? The Daily Mail certainly think so. Their Chelsea Confidential column claims that “although still somewhat raw, insiders say the academy winger has impressed by holding his own in training since his permanent promotion to the first team in December.”

That’s backed up by Maresca’s comments through the season – he’s been very positive about the winger’s contribution. Now he needs to back that up with actions. The team are in dire straits and have had 1 shot on target in the last 180 minutes of football. What better excuse to give a brilliant young talent a start?

“He already played some games in the Conference League. He is the same age as Josh Acheampong, very young, so hopefully we can give them more chances and they can also become an important part of this team,” Maresca said in January. Ok, this is your chance then Enzo…
