Blackburn Rovers have completed the permanent signing of winger Dilan Markanday from Tottenham, the club have announced.

Having come through the youth ranks at Spurs, Markanday has been prolific for the club at youth level in recent seasons, and made his first-team debut for the club in their Europa Conference League clash with Vitesse earlier this season.

But with his contract at Spurs expiring at the end of this season, Blackburn have now swooped to sign the player on a permanent basis, with it reported that Markanday had turned down a new contract with Spurs, due to his desire to go out and test himself with regular first-team football.

It has been suggested that Blackburn have paid a fee of around £500,000 for the winger, which could rise to around £1million with add-ons.

The 20-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Rovers, who have the option to extend by a further 12 months, effectively securing his future at Ewood Park until the summer of 2026.

Markanday becomes Rovers’ third signing of the summer transfer window, following right-back duo James Brown – who initially links up with the club’s under 23s – and Deyovaisio Zeefuik, who has joined on loan with the option to buy from Hertha Berlin.

Taking to Twitter to react to news of Markanday’s arrival, plenty of Blackburn fans appeared delighted with their side’s latest addition.
