Goncalo Ramos’ injury earlier this season opened the doors for Marco Asensio to garner regular playing time in Luis Enrique’s side.
The Spaniard was working hard to establish himself as a reliable option in Luis Enrique’s plans and just appeared to be making inroads towards claiming a regular starting spot in the long term.
Once again, however, an injury appears to have cut his progress short as the forward went off injured before half-time in PSG’s recent win over Girona in the UEFA Champions League.
As confirmed in a recent update on the official PSG website, Asensio has suffered a muscle contracture in his right thigh, ruling him out of action at present.
The player will continue to undergo treatment over the next week and will thus not be available for Luis Enrique’s side as they prepare to travel to take on Stade de Reims in Ligue 1.
Asensio’s recovery will determine his date of return but Enrique will hope that the player faces a short time on the sidelines.
After all, he is the team’s best bet in Ramos’ absence and was just looking to reach his best level before the blow.
So far this season, the 28-year-old made four starts for the Parisiens in Ligue 1, scoring one goal and recording two assists in the process.
Further, he averaged two key passes per game and created four big chances.
With the latest change in squad dynamic, the PSG manager could look to turn to Randal Kolo Muani to take Asensio’s place on the field for the weekend’s clash.
With two goals in just over 120 minutes this term, the Frenchman has after all been making a big statement as an impact player.
