Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Yasser Larouci’s injury may not be as bad as first feared after the player was stretchered off in Sunday night’s Fenway Park ‘friendly’ game against Sevilla.

Klopp watched on in dismay as young left-back Larouci was taken out of the game by a terrible tackle from Sevilla’s French defender Joris Gnagnon.

Gnagnon rightly received a straight red card for his despicable challenge on the 18-year-old who had been impressing the Liverpool coaching staff with his displays so far during The Reds’ summer fixtures.

A clearly annoyed Klopp was asked for further details on Larouci’s injury in his post-match press conference. The German manager gave what information he could without commenting on the Sevilla player directly.

“[It’s] much too early in the season to create headlines with saying the things I think about the situation. “Let me say how the situation is with Yasser; it looks like he was lucky but, of course, how it always is with these things we have to wait a little bit. He couldn’t keep on playing, so that’s the first not-so-good sign but in the dressing room it was OK. “He hit him full throttle and, in that moment, [if it was] a little bit different position where he hit him then it’s done. He rolls… he is a sports boy so that was OK, nothing happened there. “I don’t know 100 per cent. It looks like he was lucky but I only spoke quickly to the Doc and that’s what he said, but we have to see.”

Larouci had made a serious claim to be Liverpool’s back-up left-back with his performances in recent games so let’s hope this injury doesn’t set his development back too far.
