As confirmed by the club’s official site, Manchester United defender, Phil Jones has not traveled to Germany owing to a knee injury.
The 28-year-old has not featured for United since the FA Cup tie against Tranmere Rovers in January. In fact, he has made just eight appearances all season in yet another campaign that has seen him struggle with injuries.
The injury rules him out of the club’s Europa League campaign. The Red Devils face off against the Danish side FC Copenhagen on Monday night.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskajer also confirmed that the English defender was injured. He will now stay at the Aon training complex while he works on his recovery.
“Phil has been following an individualised training programme during the post-lockdown period to optimise recovery from a knee problem.”
The 28-year-old was touted for great things when United signed him from Blackburn Rovers in 2011. Despite a promising start, injuries have prevented him from reaching his potential at Old Trafford.
Jones was linked with a move away from the club. With him currently behind the likes of Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, he is surplus to requirements at the club.

Given his injury, it is possible that he may have played his last game for the club. With the new season closing in, it remains to be seen what United’s plans are for the window.
Jones has made 224 appearances during a decade long stay at United. At the same time, he has also missed 123 games due to injury.
Jones joins fellow defender Axel Tuanzebe and Luke Shaw on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.
