Arsenal are hoping to have both Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka available to start against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, but Jurrien Timber remains absent.

As well as suffering a damaging defeat for their Premier League title chances, Arsenal also had a couple of injury concerns to key players after Sunday’s match against Aston Villa.

Martin Odegaard was forced off early, and Bukayo Saka was left limping towards the end of the Villa clash.

Odegaard was the primary concern, with Mikel Arteta confirming afterwards that the substitution was fitness related.

“He was feeling something,” Arteta said in his post-match press conference.

But the good news is that Odegaard was back in training with the team on Tuesday, ahead of Wednesday’s match away to Bayern.

“Hopefully,” Arteta said when asked if Odegaard and Saka would be fit for the game.

“We’ve had less than 48 hours to recover from the game and we’ve had very little training, so we will assess them [on Wednesday] and see how they are.”

Jurrien Timber is also in training with the Arsenal squad at the moment, but Tom Canton reports that the defender isn’t set for a return to the bench just yet.

Arsenal are set to take on Bayern for their Champions League quarter-final second leg, with everything still to play for. The scores are level at 2-2 following the home leg.

Odegaard has made 41 appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring 10 goals and providing a further seven assists.

The 25-year-old put in a particularly pivotal performance in Arsenal’s Champions League last-16 second leg match against FC Porto, assisting the equaliser expertly and scoring first in the subsequent penalty shootout.
