Liverpool receive injury boost as captain Jordan Henderson returns to training

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has declared that he is ‘back’ from injury ahead of our Premier League game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Liverpool captain missed the last two games due to an injury he picked up during the international break last week. Henderson was absent in Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Leicester City and the 2-0 loss at Anfield to Atalanta this Wednesday.

But now, the Englishman has revealed on social media that he is ‘back’ from the hamstring injury he suffered in England’s UEFA Nations League game against Belgium.

The 30-year-old midfielder tweeted ‘back to business’ after posting a photograph of him on the training ground.

Midfielders Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara, and Xherdan Shaqiri are all set to miss the clash against Brighton, so Henderson’s return to training will be a relief for manager Jurgen Klopp. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

Liverpool will also be without defensive trio Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Joe Gomez. If the Reds are to mount a title challenge again this season, Henderson’s leadership and industry in the middle of the pitch would certainly help their cause.

Henderson has been one of the most readily available midfielders in recent years and the backbone to Liverpool’s success domestically and in Europe. The captain’s ability to cover every blade of grass on the pitch is something that is sorely missed whenever he doesn’t play.

We sit second in the Premier League table, trailing league leaders Tottenham Hotspur on goal difference. With Tottenham and third-placed Chelsea playing against each other on Sunday, Liverpool have a golden chance to try and build a lead at the top of the league table.

The Reds travel to the Amex on Saturday afternoon to take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League, before facing Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League group stage on Tuesday evening.
