The final step for FC Barcelona this season will be traveling to Sevilla for their last game. Quique Sanchez’s Sevilla side will be a formidable test, but one that has no meaningful reward. However, for Barcelona at least, there is something incredibly meaningful still worth winning and playing for.

Xavi Hernandez will be coaching his players for the last time ever in this game against Sevilla. Unless he is brought back at some point in the future, this seems to be his true final farewell from the Catalan club. Thus, his Barcelona players will be looking to make this a special memory for their coach.

Moreover, even players who will not be able to actively participate in the match itself are looking to join in it seems. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, 19-year-old Barcelona star Gavi also boarded the plane to Sevilla to accompany his teammates and departing head coach for his final game.

Gavi originally suffered a severe injury to his anterior cruciate ligament back in November, while he was on international duty with Luis de la Fuente’s Spanish National team. During the game against Georgia, the player ended up twisting his leg in a very unnatural manner and ended up getting severely injured.

Upon his successful surgery previously, even Barcelona confirmed that the operation went according to plan: “Gavi has undergone a successful operation on his torn right knee anterior cruciate ligament plus a meniscus suture.”

As a consequence of that injury and subsequent surgery, the Barcelona Golden Boy is expected to return at some point during next season. However, he will most likely miss the Euros this year, and may have to wait before he can return to the field for Barcelona as well.

However, he remains determined to accompany the team on a trip that could be emotional for many members of the club. With this final outing against Sevilla, Gavi would not only be able to be there for his team as they finish their season, but also for Xavi as he ends his time with Barcelona. Moreover, since Gavi’s family is based in Seville, that works out wonderfully for him as well.
