Incredible Ings the difference as Saints beat Palace

Scorers: Ings 12′ 75′, Adams 49′; Benteke 2′

Southampton claimed only their third win of 2021 as Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 3-1.

Palace flew out of the blocks here and took the lead after just two minutes thanks to a rasping low-range volley by Christian Benteke.

But Saints quickly got themselves an equaliser as Danny Ings turned well inside the penalty area and squeezed an effort into the bottom right-hand corner.

With five minutes of the half to go, Palace thought they had found their way back in front. Wilfried Zaha was fouled inside the area only for Luca Milivojevic’s penalty to be palmed away well by the goalkeeper.

Into the second half and the hosts immediately took the lead as Che Adams ghosted in at the far post and bundled home from a tight angle.

And the victory seemed to be complete with 15 minutes to go as Ings scored a brilliant poachers’ finish from 10 yards out.

Söyüncü stunner ends United’s title hopes

Scorers: Greenwood 15′; Thomas 10′, Söyüncü 66′

Leicester’s win at Old Trafford means Manchester City have officially been crowned the 2020/21 Premier League champions.

The Foxes made a dream start against a much-changed United side when 19-year-old Luke Thomas netted a superb volley after 10 minutes.

But their lead didn’t last long, with Mason Greenwood firing a superb equaliser into the bottom corner at the other end after some good work from Amad Diallo.

Kelechi Iheanacho almost put the Foxes 2-1 up in the 59th minute, but he was unable to beat David de Gea from a tight angle.

But with 66 minutes on the clock the visitors did re-take the lead, when Çağlar Söyüncü rose highest to head home from a corner.

United brought Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford on in search for an equaliser, and it was backs to the wall defending from Leicester in the dying minutes.

But Brendan Rodgers’s side held on for three points which strengthens their grip in the race for top four.
