Manchester United have completed the signing of Ipswich Town teenage sensation Silva Mexes, with the 14-year-old becoming their first signing under INEOS.

The youngster impressed the Red Devils’ scouts with his goalscoring ability, and the Old Trafford club have now pipped other top English clubs to his services.

The Secret Scout – a reputable source for youth football and transfer news – claimed back in March that Mexes was close to joining Man United ahead of others, and the move has now become official.

The teenager will now join the Man United academy and hope to keep impressing going forward in order to establish himself as a first-team member in the near future.

The Red Devils boast one of the best academies in the world, and Mexes could soon be following in the footsteps of the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay, who are among the recent success stories of players coming through the ranks and establishing themselves as regulars in the senior team.

Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho were two of the best performers for Man United this season, while the likes of Omari Forson and Willy Kambwala were handed their debuts.

INEOS owner and Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has no plans to splash the cash on big-money players anytime soon as the around £1.5 billion they have spent on new players since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 has yielded little, and he will look to adopt a recruitment model based on bringing in five new players under the age of 25 this summer.

He wants the club to also concentrate on signing homegrown hidden gems, but their inability to sign European players under 18 years due to post-Brexit rules has seen the Red Devils and other English clubs focus on the home market, with Mexes the latest to be snapped up.
