The President of Argentine club Indpendiente Rivadivia says that “today is decisive” to see whether Tomas Palacios will join Inter Milan.
Rivadivia President Daniel Vila spoke about the 21-year-old’s future in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews.
Inter have been working to sign defender Palacios for a couple weeks now.
The Argentine has been the Nerazzurri’s main target to bolster their defense for the upcoming season.
Inter have been seeking a defender capable of backing up Alessandro Bastoni on the left of their back three.
And they have also specifically been after a young defender. This is the mandate of owners Oaktree Capital, who want the Nerazzurri to sign players with room to grow and resale value.
Palacios checks both of those boxes. Therefore, Inter have been closing in on a move for the Argentine.
Palacios has actually already undergone his medicals ahead for the move to Inter.
Yesterday, the Argentine completed the medicals as well as the other final bureaucratic steps on his end.
However, as of yet Palacios has not signed his contract with Inter.
And reports indicate that that has to do with the agreement still not yet being absolutely complete between Inter and the defender’s club Rivadivia.
The fact that Palacios has had a somewhat convoluted ownership situation has not exactly helped matters.
The 21-year-old had been on loan at Rivadivia from Talleres. But the former club had a purchase option on the young defender.
Rivadivia and Talleres had worked out a structure on a deal that would facilitate Palacios’s transfer to Inter, and would keep both clubs happy.
Reports suggest that Inter are ready to pay a fee of €6.5 million, plus €4.5 million in add-ons.
Moreover, a sell-on fee also looks to be crucial to the deal.
At this point, however, there is no green light on the deal.
And as Rivadivia’s President has revealed, the talks are ongoing. And he expects that today, one way or the other, the future should become clear with regards to Palacios and his move to Inter.
Rivadivia President Vila said that “Today will be decisive in the negotiations.”
“We’ll know whether Tomas Palacios will join Inter, or return to Independiente.”
