Independiente Rivadavia are hoping to drive up the price of Inter Milan-bound Tomas Palacios as RB Leipzig enter the race for the youngster.
The Nerazzurri have pinpointed the 21-year-old as the ideal candidate to complete Simone Inzaghi’s defensive department.
The Italian champions are currently in talks with the Argentine club as they look to finalize an agreement as soon as possible. After all, the summer transfer market closes in seven days.
Palacios is a youth product of Talleres who joined Independiente Rivadavia on loan with an option to buy.
The latter club will be looking to exercise this option before selling the youngster for swift profit.
Inter are willing to splash 6.5 million euros for the services of the Argentina U20 starlet.
Yesterday, Talleres president confirmed the negotiations between the several parties are ongoing. However, he warned of competition from Germany.
Tuttosport (via FcInterNews) has now identified the Bundesliga suitor as RB Leipzig.
The Turin-based newspaper adds that the German side has put 10 million euros on the table.
So after sparking a bidding war, Independiente are now requesting improved terms.
As the source tells it, the Argentinian club is gunning for bonuses that would take the transfer fee up to 11 million euros.
Moreover, Independiente are also trying to negotiate a large sell-on fee. However, Inter remain stubborn in this regard.
The Nerazzurri prefer to raise the transfer fee rather than relinquish a large percentage in case of a future resale.
The Italian champions are still hoping to conclude the operation in the coming days and have the player in Italy by next week.
Palacios would be the fourth new player to join Inter’s senior squad this summer. They have already brought in Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski and Josep Martinez.
