Tragic night for Independiente de Avellaneda as they fell one win short of qualifying to the 2019 Copa Libertadores.
El Rojo ended their Super Liga Argentina’s campaign with a costly loss. Unión Santa Fe beat them 1-0 and crushed their hopes of playing in the legendary South American tournament.

Ariel Holan’s side dominated the game for the most part, but they weren’t able to reflect it on the scoreboard. Independiente lost any creative imagination in the last third in the last 25 minutes as the Libertadores ticket faded away.
The Argentinian giant only needed the three points to qualify after Huracán and Talleres clash ended in a draw.
Independiente are still the team with the most Libertadores won in history, despite not being able to lift the trophy since 1984.
