Helder Costa’s £16million price tag could prove to be a bargain for Leeds United, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds forward and boyhood Whites fan said the winger was his Man of the Match against Fulham.
The 26-year-old scored twice in Leeds’ 4-3 win against their fellow Premier League new boys and he provided an assist in last week’s 4-3 loss to Liverpool.
Costa spent last season at Leeds on loan from Wolves before the deal was made permanent in July.
And Whelan believes the winger is now fully integrated into Marcelo Bielsa’s style of play.
He told Football Insider: “Helder Costa was Man of the Match against Fulham for me.
“I did not think I would say that too many times this season. I think he has been excellent so far this season.
“He has really set his stall out and we are seeing the standards we expected to see from him.
“He has had a year and a bit to bed himself in at Leeds and he looks a lot more like himself. A lot more like the player that we bought for £16million. If he continues to play like that he will be a bargain.
“He was incredible going forward and the way he took both his goals at the weekend were top class. He was involved in everything.”
Costa scored four goals and provided six assists in 43 Championship games last season as Leeds won the title.
He played 109 times for Wolves before joining Leeds, netting 19 goals and contributing 19 assists.
