For years gone by, Jonas Hofmann has been Mr. Consistent in an attacking sense in the Bundesliga, and is deserving of a move to Bayer Leverkusen, who announced the signing on Wednesday after triggering the German’s €10m exit clause.
Last season, Hofmann recorded 22 goal contributions (12 goals, 10 assists) in 31 Bundesliga games. In 2021/22, the winger scored 12 in just 26 games, and recorded five assists. In Gladbach’s 2020/21 campaign, he registered six goals and 11 assists in 24 games. And his 31 games last season is the most football he’s ever played.
But it’s Hofmann’s creativity that prompted Bayer Leverkusen to trigger the player’s minimal release clause. Opta report that Hofmann created 99 chances in the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign, more than any other player. Joshua Kimmich (84) and Julian Brandt (73) were second and third to the Germany international.
According to FBRef, only Dominik Szoboszlai (5.52), who joined Liverpool for €70m, created more shot-creating actions than Hofmann (5.47) last season. And in what’s already an attack-minded team with Amine Adli, Florian Wirtz and Moussa Diaby, the signing of Hofmann will certainly be an incredible asset in the final third. It’s also worth noting that as reported by Stefan Bienkowski, the signing of Hofmann isn’t a replacement for Diaby.
At €10m, Hofmann is a steal in today’s market.
