New Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick on Thursday reiterated his admiration for a highly-regarded member of the club’s academy setup.

The player in question? Toni Fernández.

Flick, for his part, has over the last couple of weeks been afforded his first opportunity to become acquainted with the up-and-coming crop of young talent in Catalunya’s capital.

As much comes with a whole host of Blaugrana starlets having been called up, to train with the club’s first-team squad in pre-season.

Amongst them has been the aforementioned Fernández, who is continuing to make a name for himself as a legitimate star in the making.

A 16-year-old attacker, the Spaniard was afforded a starting berth in Barcelona’s first pre-season outing on Thursday, in a behind-closed-doors meeting with minnows UE Olot.

And Fernández proved himself decisive, laying on the assist for the game’s only goal, during the 2nd-half.

This came just hours on from Hansi Flick singling the gifted frontman out for special praise, during his official Blaugrana unveiling.

After earlier in the week hinting at his admiration for Fernández, Barca’s new headmaster reiterated as much, in explaining:

“On my first day, I met Toni Fernández. He was 15 then and now he has turned 16. The talent he has at such age is incredible.”
