In search of stability, Anderlecht may be about to make another head coaching mistake

According to LDH, Anderlecht look set to stick with Besnik Hasi for next season. The main reason appears to be the desire to have stability. Yet, this decision is likely to frustrate a fan base that has seen the club unbale to compete with other to sides in Belgium in recent years. While Brian Riemer came close last season, his side ultimately run out of gas in the play-offs. This year they were well off the pace of the top three in Genk, Club Brugge and city rivals Union St Gilloise.

Yet, by opting for stability, the Anderlecht decision makers may be making yet another head coaching mistake. They opted for the inexperienced David Hubert to replace Brian Riemer after he did a semi-decent job as caretaker. However, once given the full gig, things did not go well for Hubert. He lacked the coaching experience to manage a club with expectations like Anderlecht. Hasi came in and things have hardly gotten much better. They managed to finish fourth, but they struggled against the real top teams in the play-offs. They were also cup finalists but lost out to Club Brugge.

Hasi, in truth, has not shown much in terms of being able to turn things around since he took over. Perhaps a full summer could help, but he had this at KV Mechelen. Hasi had taken over midway through the season and almost took the side from relegation battlers to play-off one. Yet after a full summer working with the squad they looked a shadow of the side he had managed last season.

While we certainly do not wish ill for any head coach, it feels like, should Hasi be given the job full-time, he will need to really start well to get the fanbase on side. A poor start could see fans put pressure on the board to make another change.
