Owen Beck and Lewis Koumas

Redmen TV reporter Dan Clubbe spoke to Simeon Gholam from Sky Sports regarding the progress of Liverpool youngsters Lewis Koumas and Owen Beck on loan at EFL clubs Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers respectively and if he sees potential in the pin-pointed individuals.

“BOBBY FIRMINO: BEST IN THE WORLD” DOCUMENTARY | EPISODE 1

Lewis Koumas

Dan Clubbe: “Lewis Koumas is probably the one I’m most enthusiastic about I think it’s fair to say based on what we’ve seen so far from him, 11 appearances, 1 goal and 1 assist at Stoke. I will be heading down to see him play soon too which will be brilliant. The new manager at Stoke, a bit of an underwhelming start and it feels (forgive me) a little bit messy at the moment down there…

Simeon Gholam: “Yeah, we talked about Kaide Gordon with him getting the right move with the right amount of minutes. We can talk about Lewis as well with getting the right club as well again, I’ve spoken to so many loanees about it, I’ve spoken to Louie Barry who actually featured against Liverpool in an FA Cup game against Liverpool during COVID, when I spoke with him he said he went onto some loan moves that just weren’t the right for him. I’m not saying Stoke is the wrong fit for anyone but it always seems to be one of them clubs that are always in a minor state of crisis going from new manager to new manager.

“The new manager Narcis Pelach who I didn’t know a lot about beforehand, but before he came in they had an unbelievable win against Portsmouth where they blew them away. Lewis still seems to be in his plans and is still starting which is brilliant for him because obviously you never know what’s going to happen when a new manager comes in. If you’ve been watching football for a certain time the name Koumas is going to bring a level of cult excitement within you and Lewis is an exciting player to watch just like his Dad. He’s played a bit of everywhere he’s played off the left and off the right, he’s also played up front as well but he seems more suited to playing off the right based on two or three games so it’s hard to really judge what his long term plans are but both his goals this season have sort of came from that channel and being in that place at the right time but he’s one to keep an eye on.

“I don’t really know what Stoke’s level is this season with a new manager, as we know with the championship they could storm into the top six or be skirting around the bottom end of the table. Hopefully, Lewis does stay in those conversations of keeping his place in the starting eleven and he looks like the new breed of what managers like with his attacking ability and it doesn’t seem too dissimilar with what Arne Slot has at Liverpool with that style of play.”

Owen Beck

Dan Clubbe: “I spoke to Ian Rush (his uncle) about Owen Beck recently, Blackburn Rovers are 8th in the table are they somewhat punching above their so far? What are their playoff chances?

Simeon Gholam: “They started very well but they’ve lost their last couple of games. Owen Beck had just come in when they were undefeated and they’ve lost their last couple of games when he’s been out of the team so I guess that bodes well for him. I don’t expect him to have a problem getting his place back in the time after his suspension after the incident where the bite happened, for those who haven’t seen it you can look at it on Google. I interviewed one of his teammates Andi Weimann who said Beck was a bit rattled by it which you would be if someone sunk their teeth into you because that’s an awful situation to experience in any walk of life. For me, this is the right move for someone like Owen as he’s 22 years of age and he needs to be playing football every week which he will be at Blackburn because they give young players a chance and they’re at the level where there’s not loads of competition and he will come back into the team. Mid-table is a strong finish for Blackburn but for Beck, he just needs to be playing he doesn’t need to be pushing for the play offs he just needs 90 minutes of football in his legs every week which he will at Blackburn. He just needs to stop kicking people and getting bitten but the red card for him was unfortunate.”

Dan Clubbe: “Owen Beck actually came back from a decent loan spell from Dundee last season where he got some good reports it’s fair to say. He came back to Liverpool for two weeks but Dundee actually wanted him back on loan and he went back up there and finished the season with them as they were desperate to get him back which they did. Liverpool seems to have built a good relationship with Blackburn as well after successful loan spells with Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton but I want to put Owen Beck in that same category and hopefully, he can put this red card debacle situation behind him. I noticed he was playing for the Blackburn under 21s while he was suspended so he’s still getting his football in which was good to see.”

REDMEN REACTS

Welsh duo Beck and Koumas have both enjoyed a taste of senior action on Merseyside and will hope successful campaigns in the Championship will be enough to at least give themselves a shot at more regular Liverpool action next season.
