Southampton is keenly interested in Corinthians forward Yuri Alberto. But, so is Inter boss Simeone Inzaghi, who is convinced to make Alberto his new signing.
Unlike in the past, currently, there are plentiful reasons why one might casually overlook Southampton. But, there's this one aspect in which they still outperform many.
Confused? Well, it's the art of scouting talents from extended player markets.
You would remember the Saints found Mateus Fernandes from Liga Portugal. And now, just see how he has become one of their best players already.
Even a more recent example is of their winter signing Welington. Within his first appearances, the ex-Sau Paulo man has impressed legends like Francis Benali.
Well, doubling down on proven methods is always handy, and that's what Southampton plans now. After seeing success with Welington, the Saints want to sign another Brasileiro Serie A sensation Yuri Alberto.
Be it by numbers or by performances, the Corinthians forward has been a remarkable forward talent. Naturally, Alberto has emerged as an exciting option for many English clubs including Southampton.
But while the Saints' are pumped up to pursue Alberto, the reality hits a bit differently.
As per Sportwitness, Alberto isn't just a prominent prospect in England, but he is highly looked at by Inter also.
Sadly, for Southampton, the Italian club feels even more willing to sign the 23-year-old. To note, Inter boss Simeone Inzaghi has urged the club to secure his signature.
Now this in itself isn't scary for Saints fans, but its implications are.
Naturally, if a European giant like Inter is interested in him, it's over for Southampton. After all, why would Alberto opt to play in the Championship next while rejecting a Champions League run with Inter?
Clearly, Southampton feels miserable in this situation. But, everything can't be called on others, after all, it's their poor performances that have cost them. Hopefully, it changes soon.
