Over the past few days, rumours about Barcelona going all out for the signing of RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia have been gaining weight.
The La Liga champions have made the 24-year-old Spaniard a top target to reinforce the goalkeeping position.
There have been contradicting reports about Garcia’s stance on the matter, with some outlets suggesting that he would be open to the switch while other sources claim the goalkeeper is concerned about moving to Barcelona from Espanyol.
Now, according to Jose Manuel Olivan on Radio MARCA, Joan Garcia is preparing to make a move to a major European club, but will not go to Barcelona.
It is further stated that there has been no contact between the Blaugrana and the goalkeeper’s agent contrary to what some previous reports have suggested.
Garcia has a clear objective as far as his future is concerned – “to sign for a Premier League team and start from day one,” according to Olivan.

The journalist also made it clear that Garcia is not open to a loan move amidst reports that Barça were exploring loaning him out after signing him by activating the €25 million release clause in his contract.
This further complicates any potential transfer to Barcelona as, at this stage, they are unable to guarantee a first-choice role from the outset.
As mentioned earlier, Garcia is understood to be leaning towards a move to the Premier League where he has multiple suitors.
Arsenal showed strong interest last season and returned again this year, but heavy competition for the starting spot at the Emirates could limit his playing time.
Newcastle United have also emerged as serious contenders for the 24-year-old goalkeeper. Eddie Howe’s side will compete in the next edition of the Champions League and are seeking to strengthen their goalkeeping position with a dependable starter.
The project appeals to Garcia, especially given the club’s sporting ambitions and the guaranteed starting role being offered at St. James’ Park.
As such, Barcelona appear to be trailing in the race to sign the Spaniard, with the chances of his arrival looking very slim.
